Recently, he spoke about the possibility of the next Dalai Lama being a woman. “As far as reincarnation in the form of a woman is concerned — it is not a new phenomenon. None of the Dalai Lamas thus far have been women, but that might be because the need of the hour was different. If a woman is more useful to ‘Buddhadharma’ and Tibet, in the present context, I see no reason why she can’t be the Dalai Lama.” Read More Here

The Tibetean Festival of Non-Violence in the city of Ahemdabad vibrantly brought under focus the kinship Tibetan culture has had with much of what we call Indian – a richness of tradition giving joy and meaning to like, an attitute of promoting and unifying them, an endeavour to unravel powers an individual has within tempered with moderation in adopting ways to achieveit.

The serene-looking ’Roof of the World’ had perhaps never been so close to us in Ahemdabad. “No,I know”Gita Mayor says,”much of their culture.”Tibetan performing artists celebrated the emerging at Natrani, Darpana Academy, hosts to the festival with Kanoria Centre for Arts, with select scenes and sounds of the culture they ardently seek to preserve and promote.

Thangtong Lhugar Centre of Dharamsala presented the spectacular ”Performance of Traditional Tibetan Dances and Songs”Led by Phuntsok Tsering, its director, 14 young performers, presented tweleve short items. In the opening item, white-bearded masked performers, representing the founder of the opera, sing in praise of the Dalai Lama. They have a ritual dance to purify the stage, which here they performed as the last item.

‘In my dreams, I consider Mahatma Gandhi as my teacher’

“Our guru was from India and your Lord Shiva from Tibet.” said Tibetian Spiritual leader Dalai Lama to a packed auditorium at Gujarat Vidyapith in Ahemdabad on Saturday afternoon.

Dalai Lama is in Ahemdabad for a Tibetean Festival organized by Darpana Academy and Kanoria Center for Arts.

Addressing students at the Vidyapith, the Nobel Laureate said : ”It is a great honour for me to be in the institute which was founded by Mahatma Gandhi himself.

“I am a follower of Gandhi and a great admirer of his. Though I have never had a chance to meet Gandhi,in my dreams, I consider him my teacher in the modern times .”

The Dalai Lama launched a book by mrinalini Sarabhai,’Mohandas kamchand Gandhi for Children’.

“In today’s time, insititutions like the Vidyapith have very important role to play since they revive ancient thought and take it forward. Non-violence has become a political message. Ahimsa was introduced to the world by India and then exported out to the other countries. Meanwhile it got vanished from here. Revive it, is my request,” he said.
